Alex Clarke: Anyone care to guess what these are? . Hint: Resin sexyness
Paul Vallejo MWO resin beauties
John Weddle I want them
Alex Clarke Smart man. Jenners, Ravens and Highlanders (looks 100 times better then the metal version). Kay so....research question on behalf of some potential producers....for a well scaled resin miniature of the MWO mechs....what would be your top dollar figure be per mech?
Alex Clarke And before someone cries im killing IWM i have 3 metal jenners, a raven and highlander. So these are seperate items and ive paid my due to IWM lol
Shane Singleton I'm going to guess.... Battlemechs!
Marc Solursh What they are - are things I want!!!!!!!
Derek Van Kessel I'll PM you and pick them up tomorrow! Being a bit of a collector, I'd go for a couple of dollars over list for each. I think I have seen comparable resin beauties go for $14.00 to $18.00 each before they run out. These may even have better detail though.
Alex Clarke Hehe hopefully i have these for next game day derek
Derek Van Kessel ...And before someone thinks that my buying them is killing IWM, I've group bought/supported $700.00+ from IWM in the last year, have had a half dozen Highlanders and unnumbered Jenners with a few Ravens. I will still be ordering 100's more from them. I really like IWM. But I like these too.
Alex Clarke Lol dereks not joking. Haha. Hd has a mental sickness for collecting mechs . Naw heres the legality of this. IWM and PGI cannt make minis off mwo. Only MS can give that right. Pgi has granted permisdion to make minis for personal use at home. By hiring a caster to do what you lack the skill/equipment to do you arw basically commissioning an artist to create something for personal use. Its not much different then if you hired an artist to paint a picture of a mech. The "grey" area of the situation is: does paying someone to cast you a miniature for personal use fall under the permission of "personal use"
Mike Wellum if the resin producer doesnt have a licence to reproduce battletech products based on copyrighted designs, then they are no better than Dave the toymaker. You'll never have me think otherwise. IF these were unseen, or MW5/MWO designs, then i would think differently. Jenners, ravens and highlanders are still stock mechs that are in production from IWM. Hence wrong. But who am i to tell you what to do. Just my opinion.
Mike Wellum aka show me one of each put together so I can make an informed post
Tim Stables I love stuff like this. All the "hobby solicitors" come out of the woodwork.
Alex Clarke They are mwo designs haha . Unlike dave the toy maker, pgi who owns the artistic copyrights of Alex's versions of the CBT designs has granted permission to home cast these. The only grey area is someone casting for those who cannot do it for themselves. If these appeared in a store i would agree that it was wrong. But as is...no more wrong then the Thunderbolt 2 fan sculpt . Ill assemble when i have them in hand
Sebastian Smajek Well, to be honest, border between "gray area of personal use" and "black hole of copyright infringement" is defined here by profit and/or distribution.
Sebastian Smajek ...and by the way - those indeed look cool, esp. detailing on Highlander's back
Thomas Lagemann really nice, like it
John Weddle My thoughts are this. If you hold the license and waste it, don't get pissed when someone else makes tiny plastic robots to play with.
Thomas Lagemann John hold on, sometimes the thing with licences is more than a tricky thing, believe me.
Alex Clarke Theres too many parties involved with the liceanses, makes both Robotech and Battletech a pain in the ass. Small scale garage kits like these dont warrant the attention of a liceanse holder. It would cost more to bring it to court then would be worth while. Theres no profit in this kind of project as its not being sold by a retailer it is more grey area then anything else. If Dave the toy maker/Insane Kangaroo cant get sued by Harmony Gold or IWM, I seriously doubt Microsoft could/would sue on this.
Alex Clarke Regardless of the legality... is there interest in this kind of stuff?
Thomas Lagemann yep
Tim Stables Definitely.
John Weddle Yup
Mike Wellum if they were in metal.... then yes (Even i have some Mjolnirs.
Steven Jones I would buy one or two of select minis. IWM will still get my money, never fear.
Alex Clarke Check your messages mike. I think youll make an exception on these in resin
Thomas Lagemann Where is my message?
Marc Solursh Definite interest.
Alex Clarke Haha. Its an assembled and painting pic of the mechs but i dont have the painters permission to post it to the public. Ill ask him later
Alex Clarke And heres the thing guys. Anyone who watches my posts should know i love battletech, both the game and hobby side. I spent over $1000 on minis and hobby supplies last year. Im up to almost 90 metal mechs. I demo AS at local cons and have tried to convince the local shops to stock BT stuff. If there was an official way to do this, i would in a heart beat. If i thought it hurd the game, i wouldnt even be showing these. So i hope everyone understands where im coming from on this. Now that i know theres demand. I gotta see if the caster wants the job
Steven Jones To help me (and doubtless others) decide, which minis are available here?
John Weddle To clarify, I see another missed opportunity...
Alex Clarke At this point these are for my collection. But the caster isnt aware of the demand. Im working with another member of the community to commission him to do some runs. Currently he has molds for cataphract, raven, jenner and highlander with an atlas on the way soon. Now to repeat, at this time theres nothing availible and the caster is not secured. But we are searching for the solution to who will be doing the handy work. Just an early heads up and interest guage
Marc Campbell While even I think they look cool, it is still Copyright Infringement if you are not licensed to produce these as minis.
You make even a dollar off them and it constitutes Intellectual Property Piracy and while it might not be cost efficient for them to have you prosecuted, they CAN make an example of you and break you to the point that you will be having your wages garnished for a long time.
This is coming from someone who holds a copyright and an IP.
Colin Toenjes Highly illegal.
Sebastian Smajek Problem is, even if prosecuting ain't very cost efficient, that's why C&D notices were invented.
Alex Clarke Yea would be a C&D letter if anything. Nice to know people are concerned about my wellfare though
Greg Anderson I don't have a problem with this. Thanks to the BT licenses being scattered to the four winds, opportunities like this are incredibly difficult - effectively impossible - to capitalize on in an official capacity. The result is an illegal enterprise,
Alex Clarke Yea pretty much short of employing an army of lawyers and issuing a trial of posession to all parties involved theres not much hope of an united IP
Alex Clarke Totally worth the possible C&D letter
