2 January 3073 FSN is pleased to publish this fifteen-part excerpt of a journal recently unearthed on Kentares, dating from the Kentares Massacre itself. In these dark times, the knowledge that we have always fought against the darkness is comforting as we fight against the encroaching zealotry of the Word of Blake.[We took shelter outside of Harwell today, in an abandoned mine. It won’t last, and we had to hide Richie’s Javelin in a rockpile we made with the scraper blades on the city trucks. It was hell laying to culvert tube down to the cockpit, but Richie tells me he can get it out easily if we need it. The rocks are iron ore and slag—it should disguise a random scan.
We’re eighty-seven adults and sixty-nine children, with one BattleMech and three armored cars, and as many rifles and pistols as we could carry. Old man Fuller’s got a sword he took from a Drac who came into his house to kill his family. It’s a nice blade, one of those wavy blade katana swords the Dracs are so fond of. It’s still got a bit of his son’s blood on the pommel. And a lot of the Drac’s, of course. But Zach Fuller is still dead.
The Seventh Crucis pulled out after they killed Minoru. We only found out why later—a couple of deserters spread the story, before the Dracs fell out of the sky in clouds. We killed their Coordinator, so they’re going to kill all of us. Seems fair, right? One world for one old man. Never mind. Talking about it doesn’t make it stop. Or make sense.]
