– In a startling revelation that casts new light on his longevity in a career filled with bloodshed and chaos, an official close to Jaime Wolf admitted today that the infamous leader of the Wolf’s Dragoons, the most deadly mercenary command in known space, is—as many have secretly believed—a vampire. Even more shocking, the same anonymous official also confirmed the rumored existence of a secret cult made up of select Dragoons warriors who also follow the ancient and mysterious ways of the nightstalkers, extending their lives and enhancing their strength and battle prowess not through any simulation of Clan Trials and training protocols, but through far more arcane practices involving human sacrifice and blood-drinking.
“I cannot remain silent about this any longer,” said the official, who disguised her voice and used anti-tracking software to defeat all attempts to determine her location and identity during her fifteen-minute audiophone interview with Midnight Star. “[Jaime Wolf and his cult] have been building strength slowly for all these years—before they even came to the Inner Sphere. They take the blood of others—enemies, friends who didn’t measure up, test-downs—and drink it to remain strong.”
Long relegated to works of fiction, from ancient novels to holovids even today, vampires are beings who—according to legend—achieve immortality by drawing on the life essence of other beings to replenish their own. Often depicted in legends as bloodsuckers who worship demons, possess superhuman abilities, and can even transform themselves, vampires are said to be indestructible, but vulnerable to sunlight and holy symbols.
“Many of them are old,” our informant claimed, “far older than you could even guess. Jaime alone is more than three hundred years old—not the seventy-five or so he claims to be. Among the worlds of the Successor States, however, the cult found a wider variety of victims to be had—all unaware of their very existence at the heart of a gypsy mercenary force.
“They perfected a means of surviving the sunlight, wear make-up to conceal their pale skin, and act in every way as we would expect from human beings,” said the official. “But they are not human. When enraged at staff meetings, you can see [Wolf’s] fangs extending. You never see him or any of his staff near any mirrors.
