[19 March 3071; Warrior] Everyone knows that the Star League Defense Force—the original, accept-no-substitutes version under General Kerensky—was the finest military force ever fielded. They had it all—top-line ’Mechs, tanks, fighters, and WarShips. There were divisions upon divisions of them—hundreds of thousands of BattleMechs alone. Millions upon millions of soldiers. While modern armies are not so large, we still do a lot of things because “that’s how the Star League did it.” But not everything.
For instance, Star League companies and even battalions were comprised of one class of ’Mech, tank, or fighter. Where today you might find twelve different classes of ’Mechs in a company, it was not uncommon to see an entire battalion or even regiment of Thugs or Griffins in the SLDF.
And why not? Any technician will tell you it’s a lot of work to hook a Ceres Arms laser into the firing ports of a Martell, or that the waist-actuator sealant for a Vindicator doesn’t work in a Stealth. Consider the logistical implications of simply ordering “Lubricant, Waist of, One each, Vindicator” for an entire battalion. Leaving aside the thought of trying to stand against forty Highlanders in combat, just the logistical reasons are sound.
Newer is not always better… and it wouldn’t hurt us to think like that a little more often.

не ну вроде это и в старых сурсах проскальзывало на уровне - а вот у этих ребят до фига Мародёров, а у тех только Виндикаторы и Локусты...но худлит и игровой фишкой всегда было разнообразие. Всё-таки бой рота Мародёров на роту Вархаммеров сомнительное удовольствие, также как во всём романе читать про 1-2 модели меха...
