[18 March 3071; ISAP] Reports today show the final elements of the so-called First Andurien Rangers departing the zenith jump point of the Principia system, after having unsuccessfully raided the world and being driven off by the combined forces of the Principia militia and the mercenary flotilla known as Kraken Unleashed.
The Kraken are unusual in mercenary circles as one of the few units who routinely deploy blue-water warships and combat vehicles wherever they are deployed. While it’s not unusual for the planetary forces to hire mercenaries to help crew their standing wet-navies, very few mercenaries move from ocean to ocean across the starts, carrying their own equipment with them.
Speaking at a press conference near the site of the militia’s main engagement with the rogue Andurien forces, one militia platoon commander expressed his admiration of the Kraken’s adherence to duty and combat ability. “They stacked those bastards us right along with us when they could,” the officer said. “Anytime those fools went near the water there was a plane or a hydrofoil or a big damn boat with a gun waiting for them.”
The Kraken Unleashed deploy a mix of air, land, and sea forces in every contract, operating whatever mix of combat craft are called for, from small attack boats to multi-thousand-ton combat warships. he local detachment commander nearest us declined to comment on this story, citing security risks.
