Sphere Watch: The Fragmenting Worlds League

[19 February 3071; MercNet] Most political advisers to mercenary commands have stopped issuing recommendations to units concerned about contracts taken in the Free Worlds League. The changing political landscape makes mercenary contracting particularly dangerous just now, as changing allegiances could make blessed defenders into vile invaders in the blink of an eye.
Four amalgamated factions seem to have emerged in the wake of the attacks on Atreus. Tamarind and Oriente appear to be allied, and a large bloc of worlds still supports Captain-General Corrine Marik on Atreus. The always truculent nobles of Regulus and Andurien appear to be playing the waiting game, however.
On the face this would appear to be a profitable time to be a mercenary in League space, as both Regular and Andurien are actively building their military forces, and Tamarind has always been a good employer. Marshall Jeremy Brett is too savvy a commander to alienate an entire bloc of troops. The danger is poorly-worded contracts, the same dangers that indebted countless commands to the Draconis Combine’s “company store” during the Succession Wars and led to so much turmoil during the Free Rasalhague Republic’s formation in the mid-3030s.
Most command are advised to seek stringent wording of all contracts taken in Marik space, in particular seeking protection against governmental changes and attaching riders listing specific instances where the unit is responsible for action and where it isn’t. For more informat, contact your local MRBC enclave for sample documents.
