Blakist Cyber-Troops, WarShips Overrun Determined Defenders
[24 February 3070; Commonwealth Press] The unthinkable has happened. The Word of Blake has captured the fortress of Hesperus II, and with it the staggering production capacity of Defiance Industries’ main facilities at the Myoo Mountains. For the first time since the Lyran Commonwealth claimed the world at the fall of the first Star League, a foreign flag flies in Maria’s Elegy.
Led by a ferocious attack spearheaded by powerful naval elements, the Word of Blake assault force—which included at least one of the dreaded Shadow divisions—struck hard and fast against the veteran defenders. The LAAF forces, outclassed at the start by the Blakists’ superior technology and ferocity in battle, attempted to hold back the tide for as long as possible, but in the end they were overrun and destroyed.
The loss of Hesperus II represents a serious blow to both the Lyran national pride and to the warfighting capability of the Lyran Alliance Armed Forces. The many production lines of the Myoo Mountain facilities, not to mention the electronics powerhouse of Doering Electronics, provide a sizable percentage of the Lyran war machine, and it will take a serious readjustment to keep the LAAF in fighting trim. We are also awaiting word of the fate of Defiance CEO Duke Daniel Brewster, who was known to be on-planet at the time of the assault. No reports of his death or capture have yet been issued.
Combined with the ongoing siege of Tharkad, the loss of Hesperus II to the Word of Blake has granted the zealots two of the largest jewels in the Lyran crown. With Archon Peter Steiner-Davion silenced on Tharkad, it falls to General of the Armies Adam Steiner to try and salvage the national pride and throw the Blakists back.
