Revealed: Morgan and Candace Love Nest on Warlock!

GALACTIC INSINUATOR, 12 JUNE –Galactic Insinuator has learned of the existence of a secret estate on Jefferson Isle, a quiet equatorial island on the Capellan planet Warlock, which local officials believe is the lavish, romantic getaway of none other than Candace Liao and Morgan Kell. The discovery confirms a rumor born with the reborn Star League itself: that of a romantic relationship between the St. Ives Duchess and the man known as Arc-Royal’s Grand Duke and cofounder of the infamous Kell Hounds mercenary command.
“Of course, Lady Liao spends much of her time here [on Warlock],” claims Jeremy Ronald, one of the aerospace traffic controllers at Warlock’s primary starport. “After all, before the [Capellan-St. Ives] War, our world was a focal point of the Compact’s defense.”
According to Ronald, however, Duchess Liao’s visits to Warlock—once irregular, annual junkets to check on the output of the local BattleMech factories—have become both longer and more common in the past few years, yet her public appearances have remained as constant. While offering no explanation for what other business might occupy the Duchess’ extra time on-planet, Ronald did confide to reporters that Liao’s visits now include the chartering of private shuttles to and from Jefferson Isle.
“Jefferson Isle is a no-fly zone by order of the Warlock government,” says a second source close to the spaceport authority, who asked not to be named. “Nobody supposedly lives there, but I have seen the satellite images there. It’s a paradise.”
According to many, construction of the tropical estate on Jefferson Isle began in 3059, soon after the end of the first Whiting Conference and the formation of the new Star League. It was during this conference, some say, that Duchess Liao proposed to the Grand Duke, offering the planet Warlock to the Kell Hound founder as part of their betrothal. Although largely considered an empty act, intended to keep Kell involved in the conference, many have suggested that Liao’s offer was indeed genuine.
Duchess Liao’s visits to Jefferson Isle, coinciding with a number of Kell’s recent retreats from the public eye—including one during the peak of the recent fighting in the FedCom Civil War—have only fueled these rumors of a blossoming romance between the two leaders, and many on Warlock purport to have seen Kell in Liao’s company during these times.
Political experts and historians agree that a marriage between Duchess Liao and Grand Duke Kell would create political and social turmoil in the extremely restrictive Capellan Confederation, and would doubtless strain the already labored relationship between Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao and his estranged aunt. In fact, says one self-professed Capellan national on Warlock, the Chancellor would undoubtedly oppose any union between these two famous lovers.
“The Chancellor would never bear such insult!” exclaims Sao-wei Lucien Xulang of the CCAF forces on Warlock. “Kell would try to claim Warlock for his personal fief, placing his Kell Hounds—known lapdogs of the hated Davion aggressors—on a key Capellan world, all at the personal command of a woman who only owes both her title and her life to the generosity of the Celestial Wisdom.”
